Thursday Notes

Today I headed down to Farlington with the Thursday Beechcroft volunteer team. Our task was to fence some gaps along the ditch edge down in the point field.

We arrived at the hut to fetch some tools and before even stepping out from the truck we got our first interesting sighting. A Swift – my first for the year and I think the first on the reserve this year. We headed down to the Point to sort our fencing I was hopeful we would catch a glimpse of a fishing Tern at some point during the day. In the end two Little terns came past, one fishing on the dropping tide while the other was just passing through.

The bushes around our worksite was stuffed full of Linnets with a scattering of Whitethroats while Skylarks and Meadow pipits gave us their sonnet from the sky.

  1. Hi R ob thank you  for 2 x108s lovely photos & info. I searched & searched for terns but couldn’t spot them. Found 12 cows happily munching & moving towards reeds Seemed very settled. The 26 in bushes _kept counting as 25. Later found clustered at next kissing gate – hope this lot won’t be escape artists! Counted 26 once. So hope correct .They were watchful so possibly still a bit unsettled but ok Have a nice bank holiday.  sue Sent from myMail app for Android Thursday, 30 April 2015, 10:32pm +01:00 from The 108ft blog : >hwtrob posted: “Today I headed down to Farlington with the Thursday Beechcroft volunteer team.
