Bon’firecrest’

Although its not really a reserve at all I thought I would still write a little something about todays meeting with a stunning tiny little bird…

Today I got to work well before opening time with the plan to do a little bit of ringing in our headquarters garden. Im lucky enough that my trainer also works at HWT so a prework ringing session works out quite well.

After getting the nets up we quickly caught a couple of birds. First bird to drop in was the stunning species we were hoping for – a Firecrest.  It was a young Male. Absolutely stunning in the hand. This was the first time I had ever seen one so close up and was quite a treat.

We also caught a young female Nuthatch and two Blue tits.

In other reserve news the Beechcroft team continued the fence line around the south of Bens Lake at Swanwick on monday and the Farlington team got creative in starting to build our new interpretation boards for the marsh yesterday.
